Judicial Capacity Development Project

As part of the NJI’s long-standing commitment to international collaboration, The NJI was pleased to launch the “Vietnam-Canada Judicial Capacity Development Project”, a multi-year initiative aimed at improving equal access to justice for all in Vietnam through judicial education, with funding from Global Affairs Canada. This project led by the National Judicial Institute, in partnership with the Supreme People's Court of Vietnam, will focus on:

  • Increased use of practices that promote equal access to justice, especially for women and youth;
  • Improved provision of gender-responsive and rule-of-law focused judicial education by the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam and the Vietnam Court Academy; and
  • Fostering leadership and mentoring opportunities for women justices in Vietnam, to increase representation in the Vietnamese judicial system.

"This collaboration represents the best of what international partnerships can achieve. By combining Canadian expertise with Vietnam's commitment to judicial excellence and UN sustainable development goals, we are working together to ensure that justice systems serve all members of society equitably and effectively. The Judicial Capacity Development Project demonstrates the power of international cooperation in advancing shared values of fairness, equality, and the rule of law."

Justice Tom Crabtree, Chief Judicial Officer, NJI.
